ASHLAND, Ore. — Actor James Avery passed away on Tuesday.
Avery was best known for his role as Uncle Phil on the “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air”, which was the show that launched Will Smith’s career.
Avery was a familiar face at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in the 1980 through 1982 seasons. He was in such productions as “Merry Wives of Windsor”, “Othello”, and “Sizwe Banzi is Dead”.
His publicist says Avery passed from complications from heart surgery. Avery was 68-years-old.
