ASHLAND, Ore.– Dozens of local volunteers are preparing to go to Jamaica to help teach first through sixth graders to read.
The group called “Great Shape! Inc” started to pack up books, Monday. The books will be shipped out in September. The books were donated by districts around the state.
In November, the volunteers will visit four rural schools for two weeks and help work with the children and teachers. This is the 7th year the organization is doing the project. Organizer, Georgene Crowe, said last year the group shipped around 11,000 books.
She said, “It’s the love that is shared with us. It’s seeing people’s life change from our volunteers going down and uh its a really life changing experience”.
The organization is still in need for volunteers for the November trip. If you are interested, you can find out more information on their website.
