Jackson County Officer Added to Memorial

basyeJACKSON COUNTY, Ore.– Two of Oregon’s fallen officers are being added to a special memorial in Salem.

The memorial honors more than 178 Oregon law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty since the 1880’s. Reserve Officer Robert Libke of Oregon City and Deputy Charles Basye from the Jackson County Sherriff’s Office were approved to be added this week.

A Jackson County inmate murdered Deputy Basye during an attempt to escape from the old Jacksonville Jail in 1917. A special ceremony will be held next Tuesday.

I didn’t know that an Officer had to be approved to be on the memorial wall in Salem. They didn’t do that for my brother as far as I know. His name was put on the wall when the wall was put up as far as I know.

It is a very nice thing to do for all the fallen officers and their familys.
