PHOENIX, Ore. — Saturday, a Rogue Valley group that wants to make every farm in Jackson County free of genetically modified organisms began collecting signatures for their petition.
GMO Free Jackson County is hoping to collect more than 6,000 signatures over the next few months in hopes of qualifying for the ballot in 2013.
They began collecting signatures Saturday morning at Colver Park in Phoenix.
“We need 4,662 because they throw out some signatures because they aren’t valid. We’re going to try and get 6,650 before we make a submission” said Brian Comnes with GMO Free Jackson County.
The group says they will be collecting signatures throughout Jackson County and will also be set up at the Medford and Ashland Food Co-Ops.
