MEDFORD, Ore. — A Department Of Justice investigation into a Jackson County Sheriff candidate has officially been closed. The DOJ found no evidence of any wrongdoing by Sheriff’s Lieutenant Bob Sergi.
Sergi is running against current Sheriff Mike Winters and Ashland Police Deputy Chief Corey Falls.
The sheriff’s office originally requested the investigation by the DOJ and accused Sergi of using addresses from an employees’ roster to solicit campaign funds.
In a letter to Sheriff’s Captain Monte Holloway, the DOJ said it found insufficient evidence to support a criminal prosecution. Sergi said he is looking to move forward, and called the investigation a waste of time.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office says Lt. Bob Sergi will remain on administrative leave, pending a review of the Department of Justice’s investigative report by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
