MEDFORD, Ore. — After 54 years, the Jackson Aquatic Center is still making a splash this summer. The only public pool run by the city of Medford opened this week and hosts 11 sessions of swim lessons. The last one will wrap up at the end of August.
Day two of lessons continued Tuesday and parents of young swimmers said they’re taking full advantage of the classes to make sure their kids are prepared for other summer activities.
“I just hope that we can keep going every year so that they get better and better because we do swimming in the rivers a lot, so I just want to make sure they’re prepared for that,” said swimmer Brandy Bryson.
City officials said they kept a close eye on the pool in the off season and had to remove the slide for safety reasons. As long as no major repairs are needed, parks and rec. officials expect the pool to be open for a few more years.
