Investigation Leads to Standoff

MEDFORD, Ore. — A teenager is in the custody of Medford Police, accused of driving a car used in a drive-by shooting this week.

16 year old Omar Alberto Gonzalez is now in the juvenile detention center, on charges of first degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon, and reckless endangering.

Police say Gonzalez was the driver in Tuesday’s drive-by shooting near Benson Street. No one was hit in that incident, and police suspect that it was gang related. Police found the car involved in the shooting that same night, and said that helped them locate the driver.

“I think the fact that we got this vehicle found that night was key, because once we found the vehicle it was just a short time until we were on to the suspects,” said Medford Police Lt. Mike Budreau.

Police say this investigation led them to a home on Manchester Road in west Medford on Thursday.

Around 1:30 p.m., Medford Police detained who they believe was a passenger in that drive-by shooting on Tuesday. That man was detained and released after an interview. Police did take a female into custody for a statewide warrant for dangerous drugs.

Medford Police say they are still looking for the shooter.
