GRANTS PASS, Ore. — Fire officials gathered in one place Wednesday afternoon to give updated information on each of five complex fires in southern Oregon.
To help organize and clarify all the information and updates come through the Joint Information Center in Grants Pass.
“If you can’t get immediate, accurate information, then a story begins to invent itself and moves through the community and becomes truth, so a lot of what we do is counteracting rumors and misinformation,” said J.I.C. coordinator Don Ferguson.
Ferguson said accurate updated information is the key to answering the public’s questions when calls come in. While fire officials are out at their respective fires, a different team is manning the phones. Jacksonville C.E.R.T. members have been taking calls at the joint information center since Monday and said they get around a hundred calls per day.
The number for the joint information center is 541- 471-6620 and is staffed from 7 am to 9 pm.
