CAVE JUNCTION, Ore. — Due to safety concerns, the U.S. Forest Service says the Illinois River Road is expected to remain closed for an extended period of time due to the Labrador Fire.
Labrador Fire currently has no containment lines around it and Forest Service says current weather conditions could give the fire potential to grow rapidly.
The Forest Services says they will periodically reassess the closure based on fire and safety conditions.
The U.S. Forest Service says an analysis conducted by their Long-Term Fire Assessment Team indicated the Labrador Fire could demonstrate significant, periodic growth until a season-ending rain event occurs.
The Forest Service says it is essential that the narrow forest road provide a rapid, safe access route for both firefighters and residents living within the closure area.
