TALENT, Ore. — Several bicycle shops are coming together to help with a 12-year-old’s fight with brain cancer.
Several members of the Jefferson Mountain Bike Association have raced with Alex Shepard’s father. After witnessing what the family has been going through recently, they wanted to help.
A few members reached to local shops to help donate parts and labor to build a custom mountain bike. That bike will now be auctioned off to help benefit Team Alex.
“The bike community is very aware of his story so it’s really just a matter of everybody just chipping in to do what they can do,” said Mike DeSalvo, of DeSalvo Custom Cycles.
Part of the proceeds will also go to JMBA to help maintain bike trails. Tickets are being sold At Cycle Analysis, Cycle Sport in Medford, and Flywheel Bicycle Solutions for $20. The raffle will be held on June 21st at the Humbug Hurry up Mountain Bike Race in Yreka at 2 p.m.
