Today is a carbon copy of yesterday with extreme heat still heating the area. Tomorrow Medford will be near a record breaking high temperature while other areas remain 10-15 degrees above normal. The weekend is when we see change. An upper-level low off the California coast will start to move east which will push the ridge out of our region and we’ll see temperatures plummet to normal temperaturs for this time of the year in just a couple days. As we continue into next week we’ll see temperatures drop even further to below normal!
So temperatures dropping is one story, the other is the chance for thunderstorms. Isolated thunderstorms are possible this afternoon and evening along and east of the Cascades as well as in northern California. Chances for thunderstorms will be increasing through Saturday, with the best chance across the area on Saturday. Any thunderstorms that form can produce strong winds which is not good for firefighters, but Saturday storms will have more rain which IS good for firefighters. So it’s a wait and see for thunderstorms helping or hindering firefighters over the next several days.
Fire Danger Level bumped up to ‘Extreme’ today, for a list of all the new regulations see the website under ‘Weather Links’ on the ‘Weather Page.’
