MEDFORD, Ore. — Hundreds of seniors from around the West are taking to the diamond, hitting a home run for the local economy. It’s all part of the Rogue Valley Senior Softball Association’s Annual Fall Classic Tournament. 32 of the 42 teams participating are from out of town.

Travel Medford estimates this tournament brings about $200,000 to the Medford community each year, as visitors spend their dollars at hotels, restaurants and at local destinations.

“This is one of the tournaments that the seniors love to come to, because the valley has so much to offer. They can go wine tasting, they can, of course, have our tax-free shopping and doing the Harry and David tours,” explained Angela Wood, with Travel Medford.

The tournament runs through Sunday at the U.S. Cellular Community Park. Games run from 8 a.m. to about 4:30 each day. It is free to the public.
