(CNN) — If you’re expecting to hit the road for the fourth of July, you should also be expecting higher gas prices than ever. According to Triple A, prices are expected to be at their highest level in six years.
The current national average for gas is $3.67, compared to $3.48 on July 4, 2013. The current Oregon average is $3.98 compared to $3.76 on Independence Day last year, according to Triple A.
Reports from Triple A said in recent years gas prices have usually declined in the weeks leading up to this big travel weekend, however that is not the case this year, due to higher crude oil costs resulting from violence in Iraq.
Officials said the current Oregon average is at its highest and could climb higher as the year goes on.
