MALHEUR COUNTY, Ore. — Oregon State Police said a trooper found heroin concealed in Valentine teddy bear baskets in the trunk of a car during a traffic stop.
Police explained an OSP senior trooper stopped a 2005 Honda Accord displaying Arizona license plates off the westbound lanes of Interstate 84 near milepost 377 for failing to signal lane changes. The car’s two occupants were identified as driver Sonla Marquez-Lozano and passenger Yedid Zamudio-Vazquez, who were both from Phoenix, Arizona.
Subsequent investigation during the traffic stop resulted in the trooper discovering approximately five pounds of heroin concealed in two Valentine teddy bear baskets found in the trunk. Estimated value of the seized heroin is $200,000.
Both women were arrested without incident and lodged in the Malheur County Jail for possession and distribution of heroin. The OSP Drug Enforcement Section is continuing the investigation.
