MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — Concerns about concussions are leading the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) to issue a new recommendation to it’s doctors. They say in certain situations it’s ok to breach patient confidentiality. Specifically, in cases of young athletes who have had a head injury.
So, doctors could start getting young athletes to sign waivers that would allow them to communicate directly with their coaches.
This move could reduce “doctor shopping” by young athletes who, after a concussion, might just find any doctor who will clear them to play.
