Health Warnings For Summer Travel

By Yessenia Anderson

MEDFORD, Ore. — As temperatures warm up and with summer in full effect, more residents are taking a vacation away from Southern Oregon. This is the time of year when many people are traveling by air.

Officials at the Rogue Valley International Medford Airport say the busy season kicked off in June for them and will extend through August. Officials have seen an increase in leisure travel with the addition of Allegiant Air, who offers low cost flights to specific destinations, but international travel is also common around this time period.

Before taking off, health officials say it is crucial for travelers to get the appropriate vaccinations. Jackson County health officials say well over 200 cases of measles were reported last year in the United States. They anticipate, with lower vaccinations rates, that number could be the same if not more this year.

On average during the summer months the Rogue Valley International Medford Airport serves 2,000 passengers a day. Airport officials advise all passengers to give yourself at least an hour and a half to arrive before your flight takes off.
