Halloween Income Soars for Thrift Stores

10-27 jbo halloween goodwillMEDFORD, Ore. – Local thrift shops are enjoying the business this Halloween season. Southern Oregon Goodwill says it’s the biggest holiday of the entire year for them.

Southern Oregon Goodwill stores will usually bring in about $1,000,000 in the month of October.

That’s double any other month.

“It’s huge. That’s why we gear up all year long, we save things. It’s the same thing for Christmas,” said Suzy Lewis, Vice President of Retail Operations for Southern Oregon Goodwill.

The stores donate $0.85 for every dollar toward job training programs for people with disabilities, veterans, and others with barriers to employment.

They claim the average Halloween costume from a standard retail store goes for around $80. Their costumes, they say, come at a third of that price.

They also offer booklets and advice on how to pair up items and prepare costumes at their stores.

Yes Goodwill is the best place to buy your Halloween costume. We still have a lot of good things for sale. Well yes I work there, but before I worked there, I always shopped there with my family.
