Halloween Decorative Contact Dangers

MEDFORD, Ore. – Halloween is right around the corner but if you’re not careful, your trip to the costume store could lead to a trip to the doctor. The Food and Drug Administration warns consumers of illegally sold over the counter decorative lenses.

The FDA says the cheap lenses, which can be bought without a prescription for as little as $20, can cause permanent eye damage and even blindness. Local Rogue Valley doctors say the best way to play it safe is to not buy the cheap novelties at all.

“I would just say don’t wear them at all. If you want Halloween contact lenses I would go to your eye care professional and have them fit you properly,” said Optometrist Dr. Ben Taylor

There are safe ways to give your eyes an exotic looks this holiday. Prescription decorative lenses can be purchased legally both online and at retailers.
