Habitat for Humanity Remodels

MEDFORD, Ore. — Habitat for Humanity held a Valentine’s Day event for singles volunteers Saturday afternoon. But it turned out, the real attraction at the event was the house itself.

Thanks to funding from the Neighborhood Stabilization Program, the non-profit did something a bit different. Instead of building a new home from scratch, volunteers worked to restore a home that was previously foreclosed.

The project is part of a new effort to revitalize neighborhoods in need. Despite the fact that home restoration is generally more expensive and difficult than new home building, Habitat officials say this was the first of several such projects around the city.
