Grass Fire Reminds Of Fire Danger

GOLD HILL, Ore. — A small grass fire on interstate five delayed traffic and could have a done a lot of damage.

Oregon Department of Forestry and Fire District 3 headed out to mile marker 40 outside of Gold Hill. There, they found flames burning through the dry grass and brush and a broken-down car nearby.

While crews lined and mopped up the fire, a north bound lane was closed, causing delays and backing up in traffic.  ODF said people can become lax about fire danger as summer turns into fall. Officials explained this small fire could have easily been more if the winds had been any stronger.
