GRANTS PASS, Ore. – A Grants Pass man is in jail, but not for what officers thought they were responding to.
They were told a woman and three kids were being held in a home, but that wasn’t the case. Late Monday afternoon three people walked into the police outpost in Grants Pass to report a domestic dispute involving a gun, saying a man was holding four people hostage. They also claimed one of them was threatened with the fire arm.
Officers surrounded the home on the 1200 block of Grandview Avenue. Meanwhile the man inside called dispatch to report a broken car window, claiming one of the people who showed up at the police station had shattered it.
At that time, dispatchers told the man police were outside his home. Stephen Buckle walked out calmly but was arrested as a felon in possession of a firearm, a gun which a k-9 unit found when Buckle admitting to tossing it out of the window. After further investigation, officers found an additional firearm.
At some point, police say the woman inside had a seizure and had to be taken to Three Rivers Hospital. Police don’t believe the women or children were ever in harm’s way. Buckle is in jail on firearm and drug charges, after police found three mature marijuana plants growing in his backyard.
