GRANTS PASS, Ore. — This year’s Grants Pass Downs is coming to an end in about a week, and according to organizers, it’s been a successful run with zero horse accidents and zero horse fatalities this year.
Aside from a couple of bruised jockies, it’s been much different than the injuries from past downs. In 2010, two horses were euthanized after injuries at the races. This year race organizers say the event drew 2,000 people each day.
“It’s a tradition here. it’s popular through out the world and it’s the horses, watching the thoroughbreds and the quarter horses race around the track as hard as they can competing against each other. um it’s thrilling,” said Downs Race Director Wes Brown.
