Future of Grants Pass Downs Discussed

GRANTS PASS, Ore. — The future of horse racing in Grants Pass is becoming clearer.

The Southern Oregon Horse Racing Association reportedly wants to take control of the Grants Pass Downs from the Josephine County Fair Board.

The private organization would be taking on a longtime tradition that’s recently been facing budget problems. According to the Associated Press, the race’s amounts wagered has dropped from a high of $130,000 in 1987 to less than $50,000 last year.
