PORTLAND, Ore. — The catchy name in an Oregon commercial is catching enough attention that now a lawsuit has been filed.
“The Grange” is a casino that developers want to build outside of Portland. The commercial doesn’t come out and say it, but developers are looking for “yes” votes on two ballot measures in November.
The “National Grange”, a fraternal organization, says the developers have stepped all over their trademark. National Grange attorneys have moved on legal action, saying the organization owns the word, “grange.”
They are demanding the casino’s developers stop using the name or agree to pay for it. A spokeswoman for the developers says “grange” is a common term used currently – without confusion – by a variety of businesses.
