MEDFORD, Ore. – If the Grants Pass Nuggets could take away the bottom of the 8th inning, they would have likely forced a winner-take-all championship game against the Post 58 Canyon Crushers. Unfortunately for the Nuggets, that 8th inning is in the books.
Much like the rest of the AAA American Legion State Tournament, GP staged a comeback to take a late lead. After trailing through the first eight innings, the Nuggets scored two runs on three consecutive bunts to take a 3-2 lead. Nuggets veteran Jake Herklotz started the bottom of the 8th, but three relievers combined to give up six runs, and the Nuggets’ historic season came to an abrupt end against the Canyon Crushers. The Crushers win the title in only their second year in existence. They now move on to the Northwest Regional tournament in Eugene on Thursday.
