SALEM, Ore. — The controversy over the death penalty in Oregon, could be on the way to the State Supreme Court.
Governor John Kitzhaber is appealing a judge’s ruling in connection to the Gary Haugen case. Last month, a judge ruled the governor has no authority to issue a reprieve from the death penalty.
The governor issued that reprieve to stop Haugen from being put to death. Haugen has said he wants to die by lethal injection. Now, Kitzhaber wants the case to go to the State Supreme Court.
