PHOENIX, Ore. – A Phoenix country club is putting for patriots this Memorial Day weekend.
It’s part of a golf tournament to raise money for local veterans. The Centennial Golf Club had a full tournament bracket for their first year of the Military Appreciation Tournament Saturday.
Members of the Young Marines staffed the course, and even last year’s Miss Oregon winner played through.
Sponsorship and raffle money from the tournament went to the Wounded Warriors Project, Southern Oregon Veterans Benefit, and the Young Marines.
The country club also raised money by selling mulligans.
“You can buy two mulligans a person, so $10 a player,” said chris daggitt, director for the event. “and almost everybody bought two each, so with 132 players that’s a nice chunk of change that’s going to go to the charities.”
Organizers with the club say they had to turn teams away before the event because it sold out so early. They say they hope to make the event an annual tradition.
