YREKA, Calif. — The man who pleaded guilty to stealing the historic gold from the Siskiyou County Courthouse will have to pay up more than a million dollars in restitution.
In January 2012, 52-year-old Scott Bailey broke into the Siskiyou County Courthouse, stealing gold from the display case inside the building. Earlier this year, Bailey pleaded guilty to the charges.
Now, the Siskiyou County’s district attorney’s office says he will have to pay more than $1.35 million. That amount accounts for the stolen gold, as well as the courthouse repairs, and reimbursement to county employees involved in the case.
A second suspect, David Johnson, is awaiting trial. He entered a not guilty plea earlier this year.
