GOLD HILL, Ore. — The four Gold Hill city councilors at risk for recall all submitted letters of justification that qualify them for a special vote next month.
Monday at 4:30 p.m. was the deadline for the councilors to either submit a statement of justification or resign from their positions. Lorraine Parks, Gus Wolf, Margaret Dials, and Doug Reischman are all at risk of recall.
A group of community members petitioned for the recall following the councils approval of a medical marijuana dispensary in the city.
The petitioners say these four members acted in opposition to the best interest of the community by voting in favor.
Gold Hill Mayor Jan Fish said she is disappointed that the community chose to handle the issue this way, and she also said she stands behind all the councilors in jeopardy.
“What they did was not illegal, and it was not an ethical violation, and I think those two reasons are the only good basis of a recall, and I’m very unhappy because this is a very divisive issue in the community,” said Mayor Fish.
Gold Hill voters will vote on August 25th, and will vote on each councilor separately.
If all four councilors are recalled, the city will have to work out a way to appoint temporary members until the next election.
