MEDFORD, Ore. — In the last six weeks, 30 goats have eaten 2.5 acres of brush. They can probably be described as professional eaters, but a group of animals were hired for their appetites in order to help the City of Medford.
The city is allowing more than 2-dozen goats to eat their way through a 3-acre area of blackberry bushes near U.S. Cellular Park. The Jefferson Nature Center is using the animals to clear out the brush in the area, which will help more visitors access Bear Creek, and eliminate large amounts of wildfire fuel.
The goats will continue snacking in the area through October. The Jefferson Nature Center is paying for the entire project.
