SANFORD, Fla. — George Zimmerman is not guilty and a free man.
The six women jury reached the verdict late Saturday night after 16-and-a-half hours of deliberating. The jury could have convicted him of second-degree murder or manslaughter in the shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin.
Zimmerman is now free to leave Seminole County, Florida. Zimmerman shot Martin in February of last year. He says it was in self-defense as Martin attacked him.
The jury either agreed or had reasonable doubt that the shooting was a criminal act.
