MEDFORD, Ore. — Three men are now behind bars after police say they assaulted a woman with a baton.
Just after 4 p.m. Thursday afternoon, a 21-year-old woman says she was injured on the 2600 block of Hayden Place. Police said she was bleeding from her nose and had a hurt arm after the incident.
Police say brothers Kristin and Juan Nunez Gomez, and Anthony Paul Mathis, are in custody. The two brothers are documented Sureño gang members according to police. Officers set up surveillance on 1870 Inner Circle and the SWAT team located the suspect’s car out front of that resident.
Kristin and Mathis left in the car at 11 p.m. Thursday night, then officers pulled them over on a traffic stop. Police say they had to deploy a Taser on Kristin. Later that night, police issued a search warrant to arrest Juan.
Police say the motive for the assault was heroin-related. The brothers are facing charges of assault and robbery, and Juan faces an illegal alien charge. Mathis faces assault and robbery charges, as well as unlawful possession of heroin.
No word on the woman’s current condition.
