MEDFORD, Ore.–Some good planning by Medford Police helped get a suspected car thief in custody without a high speed chase. A Medford Police Officer noticed the stolen SUV near Highway 99 and Mace Road and waited for other officers to lay down spike strips. Four people jumped from the stolen vehicle when the spike strips flattened the SUV’s tires.
Three men were taken into custody after they jumped out of the SUV and tried to run off. Medford Police say the timing of the operation was fortunate because two K-9 units were on duty to help search for the suspect that got away on foot. The driver of the stolen car is charged with unlawful use of a vehicle, eluding an officer and drug charges. The other person who fled, a woman, is missing but known to police and is only considered a witness, another passenger is also only being considered as a witness. The fourth passenger was arrested on an unrelated warrant.
