COOS BAY, Ore. — A former middle school teacher was convicted Friday for sexually abusing a 16-year-old Coos Bay student.
55-year-old Charles McLauchllim was found guilty of second-degree sexual abuse and online sexual corruption of a minor.
Prosecutors say the former teacher from Bandon groomed the victim starting when she was in sixth grade. They say he gained her trust and he took advantage of her when she turned 16.
Officials say each count could get him a maximum sentence of five years in prison, but they say this also depends on possible other unrelated charges and psychiatric evaluations.
