MEDFORD, Ore. — A former Southern Oregon gymnastics coach already accused of child pornography is arrested again.
Investigators have brought more charges against Jeffrey Bettman who is accused of taking pictures of students while they were changing. Jeffery Bettman was a former gymnastics instructor and sports photographer in the Rogue Valley.
In November, he was arrested after the Southern Oregon High Tech Crimes Task Force found evidence he had taken pictures of young gymnasts undressing, without the children’s knowledge. Wednesday morning, Bettman was arrested again on charges of encouraging child sex abuse, and using a child in display of sexually explicit conduct.
Investigators said the charges came after additional pictures and videos were found on Bettman’s computer. Bettman had previously worked at Southern Oregon Gymnastics Academy, Rogue Valley School of Gymnastics, and most recently at Ultimate Sports Gymnastics. Police say they have reached out to a large number of potential victims.
“We’ve contacted several dozens of young girls, now going into their 20’s who have had contact with Mr. Bettman, and we’ve worked with different agencies throughout the west coast and even back into the Midwest,” said Lt. Mike Anderson with the High Tech Crimes Task Force.
Investigators say they do not think any additional evidence will be found in this case. Bettman was lodged in the Jackson County Jail on Wednesday morning. His bail was set at $2 million.
