SALEM, Ore. — Governor Kitzhaber ordered all flags at public institutions statewide be lowered and flown at half-staff Monday until date of interment in honor of former Governor Victor Atiyeh. He served from 1979 to 1987 in Oregon. Governor Atiyeh passed away on Sunday, July 20, at the age of 91.
“I am deeply saddened by the passing of Governor Vic Atiyeh – a great Oregonian, an historic governor, and a remarkable human being,” said Governor Kitzhaber upon learning of Atiyeh’s death. “He was the first governor under whom I served when I was first elected to the Legislature in 1978, and he was both a mentor and a friend,” concluded Governor Kitzhaber.
