GRANTS PASS, Ore. — The Josephine County Food Bank is asking families to dig into their pockets and their garden to provide food for families in need.
Information on ways to donate has been mailed out to Josephine County residents. Officials said the holidays are the peak time of year for canned food donations, but the spring is typically a very slow time of year.
Food bank officials said they can get five pounds of food for every dollar donated, but said fresh food is also a priority.
“We’re encouraging people to plant an extra row, plant extra vegetables. If you live in Jackson County, plant some food and take it to ACCESS. If you live in Josephine County, plant some food and bring it here to the food bank,” said Josephine County Food Bank Director Susan Scheufele.
Officials said among the most popular fresh vegetables with young children are carrots from a garden.
