Flooding Impacts Parks and Pear Orchards

Harnish ParkMEDFORD, Ore. — Recent rainfall is impacting the Rogue Valley from pear crops to parks.

Harnish Park in Eagle Point got hit particularly hard this week with heavy rainfall. A stream became fast-moving water, much higher than normal.

As for local orchardists, the rain is making for muddy conditions. The water will pool up and make it hard for them to prune the trees. Even though moisture is needed for pears, the concentration of the rain isn’t preferred. Rain at this point in the year is also not preferred. “We were dry for so long and then all of a sudden, now we just got hit with this heavy precip and it’s just relentless, one front after another,” said Hubler Orchards’ Gary Hubler.
