Flight from Brookings Crashes, Kills 1

policePETALUMA, Calif. — A man died in a plane crash shortly after leaving the Brookings Airport, Monday night.

Airport officials say the Redwood City, California man was heading to San Carlos, Calif.  The FAA said around 9:30p.m, the pilot reported engine troubles and said he would try to make it to Gnoss Field in Novato. Shortly after they said communication was lost.

Around 10:04 p.m., Fire crews responded to a grass fire in Marin County on the border of Petaluma and Novato. This is where they said they found the plane wreckage.

The FAA believes the pilot was the only person on board.
