Fiscal Cliff Delays Tax Returns

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Although the Fiscal Cliff was deferred, tax returns could still be affected.

The problem is that the IRS can’t put out 2012 tax forms until the agency knows what the tax policy is. ┬áSince Congress did not get a deal finished until January 1st, the IRS is scrambling to reprogram its systems and issue tax forms based on the revised laws.

Tax season typically starts mid-January, but so far, the agency has not announced when it will start accepting tax returns.
