MEDFORD, Ore. – The mother of the first baby born in Jackson County in 2013 says her son took his time being born, but she was willing to wait as long as it took.
Ashley Rowan gave birth to her first son, William, at 1:52 p.m. Monday afternoon at Providence Medford Medical Center. He weighs 6 pounds, 3 ounces.
Ashley had been in in labor at the hospital since New Year’s Eve. She says having William born on New Years’ Day was not as important as making sure he was ready. His mother gave him a longtime family name.
“I’ve got five other generations of William in my family. I named him after great-grandpas and the rest of the family,” Ashley said.
The hospital gave the family a basket of items to help the family when they go home.
