Fire Officials on High Alert

firefighters 9-11TALENT, Ore. — Fire agencies all over Southern Oregon are on high alert today, saying drought conditions make the holiday even more unpredictable.

Fire District Five says it has a game plan for the holiday, and it will also have extra staff on duty all day and night. Officials also say they will have staff ready to take calls, and extra personnel doing patrols. Something, officials say, will help them be prepared to jump into action at any time.

Jimmy Johnson, a fire fighter with Fire District Five, explains, “If we had a grass fire right now we have a grass rig along with our structure rig. Depending on where it’s at in the county, we’ll have our water tankers that go with us too so we have a pretty go response to that and so we respond quickly with quite a few resources.”

District Five is not alone. Most departments will have extra staff ready to respond to calls all day today.
