MEDFORD, Ore. — Medford-Fire investigators began searching for clues to find out how a fire started at Marie Callender’s restaurant.

But before they could begin, investigators had to wait for crews to knock down some of the leaning walls and remove debris for safety reasons.

As they look through the debris, pictures taken by a witness is helping to forward the investigation. The photos helped determine where the heavy flames were initially at, which was the highest part of the building’s roof.

There are four investigators working to determine the cause of the fire. They plan to start in the dining room area, work toward the kitchen area and then, to the back of the building.

“We’re still working our way in.  It’s so big, there’s so much  damage. We have to absolutely  look at everything before we’re  even remotely willing to look at a particular area,” explained fire inspector, Samantha Metheny.
Inspectors are not ruling out arson or even ruling out the fire being accidental either.

Applebee’s restaurant has decided to help Marie Callender’s. The restaurant in both Medford and Grants Pass will host a fundraiser December 23rd from 11 a.m. to closing. The restaurant plans to take 15 percent of the proceeds that day to Marie Callender’s. There will be a donation box set up at the Medford Applebee’s restaurant.
