NEAR MERLIN, Ore. — Fire officials are asking people to stay clear of the area north of Rogue River near Stratton Creek and Galice Road.
Stratton Creek and Hog Creek Road are closed due moving and heavy equipment. There is no river access at this time. Officials say the wind is blowing back, which is considered a good thing.
Heavy equipment in being moved in to help put out a 60 to 70 acre fire west of Grants Pass. Responders were sent out a couple of hours ago. They do not know what started the fire at this time.
There are two helicopters on scene doing bucket work, 4 dozers and 4 fire engines. Four more 20-person crews have been requested because of the rough terrain. There are also two air tankers. Another helicopter is en route.
