Fire Destroys Phoenix Auto Shop

PHOENIX, Ore. – An auto shop goes up in flames Friday morning in Phoenix, but the owner is able to safely get out. Crews responded to Ken’s Auto on North Main Street just before noon.

Firefighters say flames ripped through the office and shop, making that and a vehicle a total loss. Teams from Fire District 5 and Medford Fire were able to bring it under control. They say the fire started while the owner was working on a car.

“Most probable cause is some type of work with the gas tank, some gas got on to a drop light and it ignited at that point,” explained Fire District 5′s Darin Welburn. “So we feel that we’ve got a pretty good cause being witnessed with the business owner inside the building at the time.”

No one was hurt and neighboring businesses were not damaged by the fire. North Main Street was closed for a short time while crews battles the flames.
