TALENT, Ore. – Three members of a Talent family are out of their home following an early morning fire that brought in crews from three fire districts.
The fire on Foss Road completely gutted the home of Malone and Sasha Knudson and their son, Dylan. Malone Knudson was in the shower about 5:45 a.m. on Monday morning when he says his wife yelled at him to get out of the house.
“Just my wife screaming, yelling for me to get out of the house! The house was on fire. I yelled for my boy, Dylan. Make sure everybody was just out of the house,” Kudson recalls. “I grabbed the fire extinguisher out of my boat to try to put the fire out, but it was already too far along. So, I just made sure everybody was out safe and called 911.”
When fire crews arrived, the whole front of the house was fully involved and smoke was pouring out from under the front porch roof. Talent Chief Dan Marshall says first responders immediately called for more help.
“Upon arrival, we were told that the occupants were out of the house a we conducted primary search; knocked it down and confirmed that so we were able to get the occupants out,” said Marshall. “From there, we had an electrical hazard with an overhead lilne, right above where we’re standing right now, caused us some operational probelms and slowed down the attack a bit.”
It may have been a rude awakening for this family, but they found out how much their neighbors really appreciate them, and the neighbors are banding together to help out all they can.
“This Saturday and Sunday, we’re gonna have a block-long Foss Road party and yard sale. There’s plenty of parking and then just come on to the block, and bring cash. Buy stuff and let’s just support this family that has litterally lost everything,” said Gerry Pare’, a concerned neighbor.
Gerry Pare’ also said, in addition to this weekend’s block party and big yard sale, an account has been set up at Umpqua Bank in Talent to receive donations for the Knudson family.
