Fire District No. 3 crew members responded to a home on the 1500 block on Jones Road in White City around 2 a.m. A neighbor made the call after hearing loud, popping noises outside.
Investigators say that noise was an electrical wire that was burnt through and was hitting the ground. Fire crews had to wait till the electricity was shut down to safely maneuver around the home.
“We definitely want to give live power lines a lot of space and a lot of room. So, we were fighting the fire from the far side and from the back,” said Fire District No. 3 deputy fire marshal, John Patterson.
The family of four was not home at the time. Crews say the family has insurance and Red Cross will be helping them temporarily. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
