GREENSPRINGS, Ore. — Even though the Oregon Gulch Fire has slowed, life at the fire camp will get busier over the next few days.
Officials said there will be about 1,300 firefighters and other staff members camped at Howard Prairie Lake by Thursday. They said things will likely stay at those levels until the fire reaches a higher containment.
Crews also said supplies and resources like shower units are coming from out of state, which means crews have had to go a little longer without those amenities.
“Now I’m getting to the point where I’m finally getting enough portable toilets and everything in place to take care of these guys really well, to cut down on the lines for showers and things like that,” said Malcolm Hiatt, Logistics Section Chief at the fire camp.
There are several Type-1 hotshot teams at the fire camp, but officials said they could be released soon to help with other wildfires burning across Oregon and northern California.
