Fire Burns Medford Garage

MEDFORD, Ore. — A Medford family escapes their home as their garage catches fire early Monday morning.

Medford firefighters say the call came in around 9 a.m. at the home on Lara Court and a large cloud of smoke was visible from blocks away.

Crews say the fire burned through much of the garage, but firefighters prevented the flames from spreading into the house. The living area did suffer smoke and heat damage. The exact cause of the fire is unknown. Firefighters say the homeowners helped to slow down the fire before they escaped.

“They just kept the door closed and kept things where they were. So in that, the lesson learned for the home owner is, if you’ve got a fire in a room, shut that door and keep it in that area, and exit. They did a great job of doing that,” explained Medford Fire’s Jason Blount.

Two cars inside the garage were also destroyed in the fire.
