Fatal Shooting Ends in Arrest

Robert SimonsonNEAR GOLD HILL, Ore. — A man is behind bars after allegedly shooting and killing a woman at a Gold Hill-area home on Friday.

Robert Joseph Simonson, 41, is facing charges of murder, unlawful use of a weapon, interfering with a peace officer, and tampering with evidence, among others.

It happened on the 1500 block of Rogue River Highway around 6:30 a.m. Friday. The victim, Kimberly Ann Staack, 52, was taken to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Police say Simonson fired a single shot that ultimately killed her. Police say the two had been living together in various means. Officers say they were transients, sometimes living in camps and with friends.

Investigators say there was arguing prior to the incident between the two. The case is being turned over to the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office next week.

    how can the dude be in jail for a felon with a weapon then be releasted and the next day kills someone? this murder sounds like it should rest on the DA and the cops but you know it wont.
